The Phantom Blot, originally just named the Blot, is a villain originally created by Floyd Gottfredson for the Mickey Mouse newspaper comic strip storyline "Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot". He has regularly menaced Mickey and his friends in comics, but rarely appeared in animation. Though he desires money and power, his greatest lust is for fame. Some of his plans have no monetary gain for him but their purpose is to spread fear to the public, adding to his reputation. The Blot is himself very vain and his desire for money and power is only surpassed by his desire to immortalize his name in "the annals of crime".
Although "All Ducks on Deck" marked the Blot's only appearance on the Disney Afternoon, he would eventually return to animation, this time voiced by John O'Hurley, in the Mickey Mouse Works segment "Mickey Foils the Phantom Blot" and the House of Mouse episodes "Where's Minnie?" and "House of Crime".
