"The Golden Fleecing" is the forty-first episode of DuckTales. It is based on the Uncle Scrooge comic book story of the same name by Carl Barks.
Summary[]
After hearing about Launchpad's encounter with several Harpies, Scrooge heads to the Black Sea to seek out the legendary Golden Fleece. However, the fleece is guarded by a Sleepless Dragon.
Trivia[]
- This episode marks Ludwig Von Drake's only appearance on DuckTales.
Differences from the original comic[]
- Besides the obvious "Donald's not in this version."
- In the comic, the Harpies were called Larkies.
- The original story had Scrooge and Donald being kidnapped by the Larkies because their old queen had died, and they needed Scrooge to judge a cooking contest they were having to decide who would be their new queen. One of the Larkies, named Agnes, offered to allow them to escape if he judged her meal the best - which, to Scrooge's dismay, was his most hated dish, parsnip pudding.
- In the comic, the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook was able to give the ducks a solution to stopping the Sleepless Dragon. The animated Guidebook is apparently more realistic, instead saying that dragons don't exist.
- Unlike the DuckTales version, the comic actually ended with Scrooge taking the golden fleece home and getting to make the golden coat he'd wanted in the first place, saying he would throw away his old coat. However, he then later retrieves his old coat from the trash because his new golden coat is too cold and uncomfortable to wear.
